Feb. 25.

The dangerous driving charge does not seem to cover the severity of what happened in this tragic incident. If found guilty, the person whose reckless behaviour killed this beautiful animal should be treated with the same severity as if he had killed a police officer.

Not only did the police service lose a wonderful horse, in whom it had invested years of expensive training and who, in return, gave it years of dedicated service, but the emotional cost to the officers who attended the heartbreaking scene and to the injured mounted police officer who loved him, is incalculable.

I feel like the person who did this did it with every intention of seriously hurting this officer and his horse. I think he should be shown the same kind of mercy he showed for them.

I too feel that a police horse, as living, breathing thing (for lack of a better work), who is injured or killed should have the a higher status for criminal charges. These polices across North America are partners with the officer who ride and care for them. Sadly, the charge does not fit the crime.

I completely agree. Canine officers are given full respect as officers (as well they should, since they endanger themselves actively in pursuit of their duties), Equine officers should also be given full rights. That driver intentionally tried to injure or kill, not only an officer of the law, but his equine partner as well. There is no call for that, and therefore that driver should be punished to the fullest extent of the law. To do less sets a dangerous precedent that could encourage more injury or death in the future.

I hope they charge him with 'Assault with a deadly weapon' and 'Attempted Murder' - at the very least. What this man did is way beyond 'Reckless driving'!!

We need stiffer laws for animal abuse period with a special clause for our four-legged police officers. Kill an animal go to jail for 5 years, kill a police animal... 10 years. How many more Brigadier's is it going to take before this is done?
