On March 29 Councillor Gloria Lindsay Luby will put forth a motion to Toronto City Council that the City of Toronto Council officially urge the Government of Canada to amend the Criminal Code to make intentional harm of a law enforcement animal an indictable offense. It is crucial that you call your local city councillor TODAY as this motion requires 2/3rds support to be introduced. Please look up your city councillor by simply entering your address or finding their name at http://app.toronto.ca/wards/jsp/wards.jsp and call them right now and tell them to SUPPORT THIS MOTION on MARCH 29, 2006. If there was nothing much you thought you could do in this matter, this is it, this IS the one most important thing you can do right now, just by picking up the phone or writing an email to your city councillor, and it WILL make a world of difference. Please don't put it off, do it now.

HI my name is Alexa, Im 13 years of Age an I come from Barrie. I absolutely ADORE horses and I cried when I heard about the tragedy of Brigadier. ALthough he died, he left us all with hope that there are other brave horses like Brigadier, doing their jobs everyday. These horses know its dangerous but they are very commited, and I would like to honour them all by making this poem:

"Shed a Tear"
A noble steed,
A friend indeed,
With a big long stance,
And his love to prance,
16 hands high,
Oh how he loved to fly,
He did his job so well,
And people thought him swell,
When the lights went out, he patrolled,
Him and his rider, the crimes they’d control,
His courage and bravery were sought everyday,
But now in ashes and peace he lays,
The car had struck him, shattered his spirit,
They tried to help him, but he’d die, they feared it,
So on one sad day, they put him down,
The skies were dim, in a darkened frown,
The heavens cried, for the hero so brave,
But when he was asleep, he would be saved,
The sun came out, he was alive,
And other horses,
In his footsteps strive,
He now eats hay,
And gallops everyday,
With his head held high,
As if to say,
Please remember me forever,
No matter what troubles we endeavor,
Whenever you can feel the fear,
Don’t forget to shed a tear,
Although he’s far, his heart is near,
Please remember Brigadier.

Hi Alexa,

Yes it is a very nice poem, quite touching actually. Please know that you are uniquely capable of making change as you are young, well spoken and obviously care about the well being of future animals in similar positions, therefore I implore that you use your gift and contact your local city councillor and ensure they are aware of your feelings and that they vote on this. Then also write a letter to your MEMBER OF PARLIMENT in Ottawa (enter your postal code here to find out who that is:

http://www.parl.gc.ca/information/about/people/house/PostalCode.asp?Language=E

and make sure you send them your beautiful poem.

Alexa,

What an amazing poem! Brigadier has touched all of us and we need to speak up for him by calling, emailing, and or visiting our MP's. He's done his bit for us now we must do our bit for him.
